The 2019 Crosstrek has a glove box light ( like some but not all Subaru models of the last 10 years ) . Said glove box light only illuminates with the parking lights or headlights on, and stays on until the parking lights or headlights are turned off. It doesn’t matter if the glove box door is open or closed. I’m n ot sure how common this is across other makes, but as far as I can tell this seems to be the standard operating procedure for any Subaru glove box light.

My 95 Camry also has a glove box light! And my mom’s 06 Accord. It’s honestly a reallly nice touch. Not something you notice right away, but when you do, it’s like, “Ah, how thoughtful!”

Time for a super bright led swap

My Celica had a light in the glovebox. It would not illuminate without the key in the ignition, which was kind of brilliant because you couldn’t kill your battery by accidentally leaving the glovebox open in haste.

My Volvo's will shut off any carelessly left on light after a certain amount of time to protect the user from themselves. sAfEtY

So will my truck . Unfortunately, as my daughters have tested twice now, my wife’s Mazda will just let the battery be killed to death.

My 240's glovebox light stays on even with the glovebox removed and no keys in.

As I recall, this piece is an integrated unit which is a bit difficult to change.  It’s probably on the list, but I’ve got other things that I want to do first.

The 240 momentary switch is hot all the time. You need that door.

You don’t have to tell me lol, I’m so paranoid I tape the button down when I have the glovebox out. The trunk popper button in the glove box is also always hot and sometimes the leads spark off metal stuff when they’re  free from the button. I have learned to disconnect the battery now

Lol. If I remember correctly the switch gets a ground from the frame itself. If you’re willing to forego the light you could pop it out . The actual switch 12v+ lead can be disconnected behind the radio/center vents. I think the wire is light green.

You seem to have some experience with the 240s notorious wiring.   Yeah I tried pulling the leads from the light but I didn’t want to pull too hard and break anything. I like the light it’s just yet another convenience feature that every one of my newer cars has lacked. I’m also using the trunk popper ground for the OD relay to bypass the 4th gear switch for OD, so no trunk popper for this guy

Yeah. Mine was new enough to not have the biodegradable harness. They’re all kinda bad though, like all old cars. Part of the problem likely from updating and adding features to a car across three decades.  I just remember the glove box wiring from pulling the dash to swap the blower motor and run wiring for keyless entry.

Nice! I think mine is old enough to avoid that too but I’m not sure. I have to do the blower motor this winter but I’m debating just doing a hack job to avoid removing the dash. Any advice?  I want to make the kick panels for the centre console have hinges when I’m done (the interior is already trash I’m not ruining anything salvageable I promise).

Honestly, the dash comes out rather easy. The majority of the frame actually stays in the car. The hardest part for me was not losing and reinstalling all the little clips that keep the air duct side covers on and sealed. There just isn't room. It took me about six hours total.

That’s not terrible at all assuming it was your first time. I might consider doing it the normal way then. Mind if I ask what you had in the way of instruction?

Thanks! I have a link to most of the ‘green books’ (I think they are green factory service manuals) if anyone wants it, but it’s all flash so I’m worried about losing it.
